P.A. DePaul's Shadow of Doubt ⇝ARC Review⇜

When her secretly filmed tryst shows up on the internet, Michelle Alger goes on the run. She has no choice. Not only was her one-night stand the son of a US senator, but he’s been murdered—and she’s the number one suspect. With both the senator and an avenging drug lord on her trail, her life is in danger. There’s only man she can trust. He saved her once, but will he still be her hero six years later?

Captain Jeremy Malone and the rest of Delta Squad have the senator’s order: find the mystery woman who killed my son. But to Jeremy, she’s no mystery. Six years ago his team of Green Berets rescued her from the torturous clutches of a Colombian cartel, and he’s never forgotten her. His personal and covert mission: find Michelle before anyone else. When he and Michelle do meet again, the sparks are explosive and consuming. They’re also dangerous as hell.

Because with each new bit of evidence, Jeremy suspects that Michelle’s innocence may be a ruse—a beautiful trap set by a woman who has even more secrets yet to bare.

Shadow Of Doubt is book 2 in P.A. DePaul's SBG series. I loved the first one and was seriously looking forward to this one. I expected it to be just as good, maybe a little better than Exchange of Fire (book 1) but it knocked it out of the water! This book blew me away! The setting, plot, and characters are all unique. Shadow Of Doubt can be enjoyed as a standalone novel, but reading
Exchange of Fire will enhance your reading enjoyment. You will get a better sense of camaraderie between the group members and what they went through to make them the way they are.

The book begins 6 years in the past with Michelle and the rest of her lab group taking an excursion into the jungle for a college class to collect samples. This went horribly wrong when gunmen showed up kidnapping Michelle. Jeremy Malone a C.O. in the Green Berets rescued Michelle from her hell and even as she dubs him Cappy he laid a silent claim to her that he never thought he would fulfill. He put her on the chopper and promised her if she ever needed him he would come running no questions asked.

Move on into the present, Cappy is no longer a Beret and considered a dead man and is the CO of the Black Ops Delta Squad for Sweet Briar Group and Michelle is "dead" and placed in Witness Protection. Neither forgot the other, but when Michelle is framed for a murder and calls Cappy the connection felt during rescue is still there and becomes stronger every moment they are together. They have to fight the past and present to have a possible future.

So many players after Cappy and Michelle and in the background a few romantic possibilities are in the making! I am so hooked on this series. The writing is realistic and engrossing. The action keeps me on the edge, just waiting to see where it is going to lead me next. Even serious moments that are made hilarious and you can not help but laugh. This series is a must read, you will not be disappointed. I highly recommend this book.

Meet the Author

P.A. DePaul is a multi-genre romance author including paranormal fantasy and romantic suspense. As an avid lover of stories, you can pretty much bet her nose is either stuck in a book or in front of a computer madly typing as she listens to the voices in her head (In her world it's perfectly natural for her characters to tell her their tale so she can put it down on paper to their satisfaction).
